Dr. Jimmy Q. Ren is currently serving as Second Bassoon with the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra and the Allentown Symphony Orchestra. He is the Acting Principal Bassoon with the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra for the 2025–2026 season. Ren has performed with many leading ensembles, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, National Symphony Orchestra, Kennedy Center Opera House Orchestra, and Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, and has appeared as Guest Principal with the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra and Fairfax Symphony Orchestra. In Spring 2025 , he also toured and performed with the United States Air Force Band.
Ren has performed with the Berlin Philharmonic Wind Quintet and is an active chamber musician with Three Reeds and a Horn, presenting numerous recitals throughout the region at venues such as Towson University, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), and the Maryland Music Educators Association Conference. He has also appeared at the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, the Phillips Collection, and the Smithsonian American History Museum.
Ren earned his D.M.A. and M.M. in Bassoon Performance from the University of Maryland and his B.M. from Oberlin Conservatory. Among his honors, he was the First Prize winner of the University of Maryland Concerto Competition and made his solo debut in 2022.
